Who are we attached to?

The general answer to this question would be “my spouse, kids, friends, car, hobby etc”. But is that really true? If we realize that we live in a world that is created by us for us and the basic goal of our life is to fulfill our desires. Then, how can we be attached to anyone/anything else, we are simply attached to ourselves and our feelings.

Our feelings that depend on other people e.g. our family, friends and co-workers makes us think that we are attached to them but really we are only attached to our feeling.

If someone close dies we are not really sad for them. That person already died and no longer need anything from us. We are sad because we think we no longer be able to fulfill our desires that depended on that person.

The only time we give money to a beggar or go out of the way to help someone is when, we ourselves feel incomplete, thinking, a selfless act would give us the missing satisfaction we crave. Imagine a conversation with a beggar if he tells you he only accepts donations from rich people who are wearing a tie and a jacket and you are not one of them. If it was only about giving you wouldn’t feel bad.

Ultimately it’s all about me!
