Is the future predictable?

Most of us can perhaps predict the response behavior of our spouse or someone we know deeply, in a particular situation or in an event. I think we can do that because we understand the “program” of that person to an extent that we can calculate the output given a particular set of inputs.

I believe it is perhaps true for lot of things in this world. We can predict the movement of planets and star, the weather for few weeks etc. If someone could know all the parameters that impact the program; then he should be able predict the future. But as soon as someone makes a conscious choice against their program; the accuracy of the prediction diminishes

I was told that predictions using astrology where your birth date and time are taken is a science and it is “believed” that planets have an impact on the human program. There is something more interesting that read about a few years ago. Nadi is believed to be written 2000 years ago by a person who had all these parameters and was able to predict who would be born when and when they will die.

Astrology, like most statistical sciences, given a large enough sample, can be fairly accurate predictor of macro trends. Anybody who has ever worked in a hospital, understands from personal experience what the term Lunacy comes from. Some people do act ‘crazy’ during a full moon. The next time you feel that every body around you is driving like a mad man/woman, have a gander at the moon, chances are (85%) that it’s full.

Determinism, the western version philosophic basis behind any ‘science’ that claims to be able to predict future actions of people, poses several problems.
If this can truly be determined then there is no such thing as morality, since there is no free will.

Fortunately, I believe that determinism is flawed; the phenomena of radioactivity and quantum mechanics make serious dents into the probability that it is true. The program, as you refer to it, has bugs.
